Maranatha

Why do I end every article I write with “MARANATHA”?  Simply answer is , it’s my hearts cry for Jesus’ soon return. The early Church was experiencing sever persecution and the cry of their hearts was for Jesus to return and deliver them. So a lot of early Christians adopted the Aramaic phrase as a greeting for when they met and when they left each other (this is what I think), very similar to the Jewish word “Shalom”.

So what does it mean in English?  The Aramaic word actually may have two meanings, “Our Lord has come” or “Our Lord come”. Either way it has a direct meaning about Jesus and His coming. I use it to mean Jesus is coming again just like He said He would and that does no harm for it’s intended meaning, I think it solidifies it. My sole reason for it’s use is my hearts desire to see Him face to face as my Lord and savior. I place it at the end of my articles as a constant reminder of His promise, that He will return and receive all His people to Himself. To me it brings great comfort and I pray it will to you also.
